1. Cast from a phone or laptop
Open Google Calendar in Chrome and cast the tab to a Chromecast or compatible smart TV. It is the fastest way to show a calendar at a larger size for a while and requires no separate installation.
Casting is less suitable for an all-day display. It stops when the sending device leaves, sleeps or closes the tab, and your phone or laptop remains part of the setup.
2. Use a browser in kiosk mode
Place an old tablet, laptop or Raspberry Pi by the screen, open a browser full screen and keep it on one page. The display then works independently of your phone.
You still manage sleep settings, automatic startup, page refreshes and security updates. A direct Google sign-in also leaves that account session on the display. Combining family calendars requires the correct sharing and view settings first.
3. Use a family board that combines calendars
Liitu is designed for a permanent display without a normal user login on that device. Pair it once with a temporary code, then manage visible information from the dashboard.
Combine several Google accounts with Outlook, Microsoft 365 and Apple. Choose calendars, colours and layout per display, and place tasks, weather and a clock beside appointments.
| You want | Best starting point | Consider |
|---|---|---|
| Show something briefly on a TV | Casting | The sending device must stay connected |
| Keep one webpage on screen | Browser in kiosk mode | You manage login, sleep and updates |
| Combine the family's calendars | A family board such as Liitu | Connect the required calendar accounts first |
What a permanent calendar display needs
- A TV, tablet, laptop or monitor with a recent browser
- Stable Wi-Fi or wired networking
- A safe location with power
- Device settings that prevent unwanted sleep
- Regular security updates for the browser and device
Choose a calm location and readable layout
Put the display where the family naturally passes the schedule rather than somewhere they must visit deliberately. A kitchen wall or hallway often works better than a television that is only switched on in the evening. Avoid direct sunlight and use enough contrast for the viewing distance.
A TV viewed from several metres away benefits from larger type and fewer blocks. A nearby tablet can show more detail. Liitu stores presentation settings per display, so the same calendar can take a different form in the kitchen and at a desk.
Do not keep the screen lit all night without a reason. Combine Liitu's sleep schedule with the device's power settings to reduce energy use and avoid a bright display in a dark room.
Privacy and everyday management
A permanent screen is visible to everyone who walks past it. Show only calendars and details that belong in that location. A work calendar with confidential meeting titles may be suitable for a personal desk but not for the hallway.
Do not use a normal personal browser profile with saved passwords for kiosk mode. Liitu pairs the display with separate device access, so Google or Microsoft sessions do not need to remain on the TV. Keep the operating system and browser updated and check that the display reconnects correctly after power or network interruptions.
